Slowing Down Consumption | My 2022 Low Buy

Hello, my name is Oralia and I’m a shopping addict.

I would have to say that might be a little bit of a strong statement but at the same time, there’s a grain of truth in it. I’ve recently experienced a style evolution and if you know anything about me, you know that style has a a direct correlation to mindset so the evolution was being driven by a shift in my thinking.

In 2021 I spent a lot of money on clothes. A LOT. I was trying to keep up with the Influencer set, and being a nano creator, I don’t have sponsorships to help defray the costs of running a content creation business. And so I went shopping again and again posting hauls to my channel, most of them being affordable. As a result, I felt a bit of burn out by end of the Fall season, and had a closet so full that it was causing all kinds of decision fatigue, frustration, and chaos.

I think it was just before that my style started to evolve into a simpler, more classic one; apparently my mind knew what was going on before I did. At the end of 2021 I knew I needed to do a bonafide declutter of my closet and boy did it open my eyes.

  • I wasn’t living by the core principles of being a Personal Stylist and supplementing my wardrobe with pieces that I loved because they worked well for me

  • I realized I was fooling myself into thinking I had many gaps in my closet when clearly I didn’t

  • I really needed to scale back because what was most important was styling what I have

  • I had to let go of the “fantasy self” that was being fed by influencers that constantly push products I had no need for

It was an epiphany to be sure.

So after a few days of reflection and just letting these revelations stew in my brain, I decided to start a low buy in 2022. The video featured in this post goes deeper into my thoughts as well as what my rules are for my low buy because you won’t be successful without guiding principles to follow.

I hope you enjoy the video. If you do, please to give me a thumbs up to let me know I’m on the right track!
