My Valentine’s Day Wish List

I can’t believe we’re already at February and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  Unlike Christmas, where I flat out tell my loved ones what I want, I tend to drop clues on Valentine’s Day.  I rarely ever tell what I want, I let my honey figure it out or flat out surprise me.  This year, I’m dropping clues, and thought I’d share them with you guys. New Year, New Me: Five small improvements that are a big deal

There are only two times a year I feel the need to reflect on my life and try to incorporate some good habits – New Year’s day and my birthday.  I stay away from making resolutions because, let’s face it, I rarely follow through on them.  Instead, I take a look at what I’m doing and find my opportunities for improvement, as I like to call it.  If it’s a lofty change, I’ll break it down into smaller, easier to achieve steps, otherwise I find things that don’t take a lot of money or time to accomplish.  I thought I’d share the opportunities for  improvement I’ve identified for myself; some are new and some are a continuation of what I already do.  I believe these are obtainable, small things that make, or will make, a big impact on my general well being. Teeth whitening:  Your skin isn’t the only thing to show your age, teeth can also give a clue to how many years you’ve been on the planet.  With all the coffee, tea, wine, and other vices we partake in, staining is inevitable.  A good, and inexpensive way to erase the evidence of time is to use whitening strips – my personal favorite are the Crest 3D White strips.  You could go to a dentist to have your teeth professionally whitened but why, when you can easily pick something up at the drugstore, that is effective, at a fraction of the price?  I will say, these can make your teeth somewhat sensitive so what I do is whiten every 3 – 4 days (vs. everyday) until I’ve finished up the box.  The effects will vary from person to person; for…

Fall Floral

For a long time, I wasn’t about florals – I stayed clear of anything that had a flower on it, thinking it too girly and conservative for me.  In the past year I’ve changed my opinion of florals, designers have taken them to another level.  When I saw this shirt from CAbi, I immediately thought it was very rock and roll (which is why I paired it with a moto style jacket), plus it reminded me of sugar skulls and the Dia de los Muertos for some reason.  I love that the flowers on this shirt are orange and yellow – orange is a favorite color of mine, as you can find in my post about it here.  This shirt is extremely versatile; fair warning – you’ll probably see it pop up on this blog throughout the fall/winter season. Shirt:  CAbi | Moto jacket: CAbi (old, similar here and here) | Sunglasses:  Quay Australia | Shoes:  Christian Louboutin (old) | Jeans:  Loft…

Day to Night Dressing

When I saw this dress on the Ann Taylor website, I knew I had to have it.  The beautiful lace inset is so pretty, I couldn’t resist.  When it arrived, and I felt how comfortable the dress is, I knew it’s going to be one of my favorites!  This dress is a great day to night option.  Bonus is that it’s available up to a size 18.  Also, I’m obsessed with these shoes from Christian Louboutin.  They’re the perfect mix of edgy and sophisticated and can carry this dress from day to night…

Pop of Red

Nothing creates impact like red does.  I’m so excited red is one of this fall’s hottest colors, although to me, it’s timeless.  Whether you pop your outfit with shoes, lips, nails, a handbag, or whatever; red is magnificent!  Take my shoes, for instance.  These red patent leather Halogen flats are so pretty and have that Valentino studded look for a fraction of the price.  Sadly, they’re sold out at the moment but you can purchase the heeled version here.   I chose to incorporate other pops of red with Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery on my lips and China Glaze Ruby Red Pumps on my nails. So tell me, how are you going to rock red this fall…

August Favorites

I’m thrilled that we’ve made our way through August and are headed into Fall!  That said, I’d like to share a few of my obsessions from this last month.     Too Faced Born This Way Foundation:  This foundation  is SO good!  It’s probably the best liquid foundation I’ve used to date.  It makes my skin look like skin, provides medium to full coverage, and lasts all day, even through a workout.  LOVE!  Dior Capture Totale Eyes:  I’m really enjoying this serum.  I figured since I invest so much money in makeup, I should do the same for skincare.  The texture of the skin around my eyes improved within a few days. Clinique Cheek Pop in Berry Pop:  This blush gives a natural flush to the cheeks and is buildable.  Clinique’s packaging is absolutely spot on – the flower is so beautiful and there’s just something about the transparent compact that makes it eye candy at it’s finest. Makeup Forever Artist Shadows:  These shadows are so buttery and pigmented, and they blend like a dream.  They’re sold as singles; the cool thing is, when you buy these at Sephora, you can get either a two shadow or three shadow palette to put them in, which is great for travel or on the go.  The colors pictured here are M870, M546, and M928. Becca x Jacalyn Hill Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed – Champagne Pop:  OMG, this highlighter is so amazing, you can be seen from space when you wear this!  It’s shimmery without being glittery and gives you a lovely, dewy glow.  It’s a beautiful champagne gold that’ll work with all skin tones. This is exclusive to…

Is it worth it to buy an expensive purse?

The other day I saw a post by someone on my Facebook feed asking for justification to buy a purse over $150.  I immediately thought (and responded) materials and craftsmanship, of course.  It got me to thinking about it and I’d like to share my opinion on expensive purses.  While it may seem excessive to spend more than $150 on a purse, and even more so when you spend $1500 on a purse, it really does pay off.  Purses are, to me, a investment piece.  It’s something you use every day to carry all your stuff – your phone, wallet, keys, band aids, chargers, laptops, and, if you’re like me, at least 10 lipsticks at any given time, lol.  Besides the fact that it’s a vessel for your valuables, you have to think about the amount of construction that goes into a purse, what with all the small parts, hardware, zippers, etc.  When you add quality to the construction, well, it’s easy to see why they’re so expensive.  If you decide to go with high end designer (or Salon as Nordstrom refers to it), the price goes up exponentially, but so does the quality of materials and craftsmanship. Not to mention the style! I have a variety of Coach purses, in different colors and finishes, and I still have all of them, in tact.  My oldest Coach purse is 20 years old.  Why did I decide to go with a designer bag like Coach?  Because they have an embossed leather panel inside the purse with the serial number; they guarantee their construction for life.  It’s that level of service and craftsmanship that keeps me going back.  And let’s talk about resale value of designer…
