And the Weight Loss Struggle Continues…

…but I’m finally in the right head space for it!  It’s been a long time coming, that mental (and almost audible) click that is the decision to lose weight.  How do I know this time things are different?  Because I’ve been here before, and the resolve is the same.  The last time I felt this certain, I adopted the habit of working out in the a.m., in addition to workouts with a personal trainer; that habit lasted for about 3 years. So let’s start with diet. During the tail end of 2017 I did a short stint of Keto dieting for about 3 weeks; I didn’t really know what I wanted to do so I fell back to a plan that forced boundaries, and that has produced great results for me in the past.  Throughout this run at Keto, I felt very heavy, even though I lost about 10 lbs.  I went off Keto at Christmas, and as I was trying to drop back into Keto in the new year (without much success), I was doing a lot of soul searching about what I really wanted out of my eating plan.  I wasn’t really sure that I wanted to do Keto again, although I didn’t rule it out at first.  While it worked really well for me; mentally, it’s a very tough diet for me to follow. Throughout all of my pondering, one thing became perfectly clear – in order to be successful in weight loss, and also sustainment, I needed a paradigm shift.  And then it occurred to me that I need to eat to live, not eat to lose weight; and Keto is a specialized plan to lose weight.  Don…

Beauty Steals

I love a good bargain, and I especially love a good makeup bargain.  Lately I’ve been on an affordable makeup binge.  While I do love my high end products, I also think you can find really good quality makeup on a budget.  Below is a list of my favorite affordable makeup finds – some old, some new, all loved. Wet ‘n Wild Photofocus Foundation – $5.99:  If you enjoy a medium, buildable to full coverage foundation, this little gem is the one for you!  There are 20 shade selections, which is great for drugstore.  What I truly appreciate about this foundation is the finish, which is not too matte nor too dewy, and it photographs well.  It gives great coverage, lasts for about 9 – 10 hours on my combination dry/oily skin, and it’s cruelty free to boot.  The one con is that it transfers a bit.  I use a sticky primer (such as the Nivea Sensitive Skin Shave Balm) to help keep it in place.  At such a great price point this is a beauty steal indeed! Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte & Inti-matte Lipsticks – $7.49  A lightweight matte formula that rivals high end lipsticks, these are highly pigmented and extremely comfortable matte options.  There’s a large range of colors and finishes (i.e., metallics) available.  While these aren’t long wear like a matte liquid lipstick, they’re still very nice without the drying effect. Shades shown are Siren in Scarlet, and Almond Rose. Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso – $10.49:  Probably the most beautiful peach toned blush at the drugstore, Luminoso leaves a beautiful peachy, glowing finish on the skin.  It’s a great year round blush but is especially beautiful…
