Over 40 Beauty: Best Matte Eye Shadow Palettes

I love me a good matte eyeshadow these days.  I’ve really gotten into all matte eye looks this fall and winter, and it’s due to the wide availability of really good matte eye shadow formulas.  It used to be that I would have to collect shadow singles to come up with a perfect matte palette.  For a beauty junkie like me, that’s no biggie.  For busy women that have higher priorities (i.e., sleep) than makeup, it’s probably too much work.  Well, whatever the case may be, there’s cause for celebration!  There are a few all matte eyeshadow palettes that have emerged in recent months, and are some of the most beautiful with soft, bendable formulas that make doing your eye makeup a dream (and could even inspire you to try something different)!  Do keep in mind that my review is biased to warmer tones, for the most part.  I’ll be sure to call out where cool toned counterparts can be found. While I myself love shimmer and glitter, I have also really come to appreciate the sophistication of a strong matte eyeshadow look.  You can go from natural, girl next door, to fierce rocker chick, and everything in between, with practically any color story.  And let’s not forget one of the biggest reason’s to love matte eye shadows:  They’re great for eyes with aging skin.  They don’t emphasize texture (i.e. wrinkles & crinkles), they stay put, and they’re flatteringly soft in finish.  But don’t think that because it’s matte, it doesn’t have any drama!  What I truly enjoy about matte eyeshadows is their versatility, but they have to be really…

Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting Powder

I’ve found my perfect setting powder!  The Too Faced Peach Perfect Mattifying Setting powder is my new holy grail.  Peach Perfect powder released earlier this year as part of the Too Faced Peaches & Cream collection but I refrained from trying it simply because I’d been having a love affair with the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Pressed powder.  But, after watching several reviews over the last few months on YouTube, I finally caved and bought it.  Boy, am I glad I did. The Peach Perfect powder is a dream.  First, it’s infused with peach and fig cream, and has a lovely peach scent and flavor.  Yes, flavor.  You may ask how I know this?  Well, when you apply it to your face, especially if you use a brush, powder kicks up and gets into your mouth.  It happens with any loose powder, really, it’s just that this one happens to be sweet.  For me, it’s not an issue.  If this worries you, you can use a beauty sponge to apply it, which will reduce, or outright eliminate, the kick up.  I’m happy to report that like all Too Faced products, the Peach Perfect powder is certified cruelty free. The Peach Perfect powder is very finely milled, and despite being translucent, it has a soft pink tint which acts to brighten, and will work for many skin tones.  It goes on beautifully, perfecting the skin by camouflaging the pores.  To be honest, the first application took my breath away, I looked like I had been Face Tuned on the spot.  I really love how perfected my skin looks with this powder.  This product also claims to control oil, and I have to say, it meets that claim.  My…

My Skin’s New Best Friend

My skin has a new bestie.  In the last year I’ve tried a few different serums, oils, and potions, trying to help improve the appearance and texture of my skin.  I’m happy to say that in all of my searching, I’ve happened across a real winner – the Algenist Genius Liquid Collagen. The Algenist Liquid Collagen has shown significant results, reducing fine lines, and even smoothing some deeper wrinkles.  I’ve also seen an increase in the plumpness of my skin as well as an increased radiance, as if I’ve been super good and have actually been drinking as much water as I should.  Most surprisingly, I didn’t have to wait weeks to see the effects.  I started to see better resiliency in my skin within a few days of starting use, which is one of the claims this product makes.  I thought maybe part of the result was due to also starting a Retinol product at the same time as I started this product however, I’m more consistent with the Algenist Liquid Collagen and continue to see good results. The product is slightly runny and gel like, and is loaded with tiny beads of Microalgea oil.  The collagen is plant based (i.e., vegan), and is part of what helps give the skin bounce and a lovely radiance. It doesn’t really doesn’t take much product, a pea sized amount (or one pump of product) is enough for your face and neck.  Bonus: this is safe for the delicate eye area!  It’s not to say I’ll stop using my other eye creams but I have to admit it’s nice to have a one stop product that is…
