Getting Back to Working Out

I’ve recently starting working out again and it’s kicking my ass.  My return to the gym has made one thing very clear in my mind:  I am at the beginning again. It’s frustrating because I worked really hard to be fit and strong.  Over the span of 4 personal trainers and 10 years I’ve done countless lunges, an eternity of plank, and what feels like more crunches than there are stars.  Ok, I’m being facetious, but I was fit.  And now, to be back at the beginning really pisses me off. This epiphany has a silver lining, though.  This time around, I know what to do.  The question is, can I motivate myself to do it or should I hire help?  Right now, I’m inclined to say motivate myself.  First, I need to get back into the habit, both physically and mentally.  I know I need to set up a steady routine, and I need cardio conditioning.  It’ll enable the rest of the work – resistance or some form of weight bearing exercise.  Second, I’m over the dependency on a trainer; the mental motivation (a.k.a. sense of dread) on training day would hang over the entire day like a rain cloud, even with my favorite trainer.  At the moment, I’m just not into it.  I’ll reassess after summer is done. Speaking of…my plan is to focus on getting cardio conditioning back over the summer, and getting back into a morning workout routine. That means I’m going to enjoy a nicely air conditioned gym, lol.  Of course, I’ve awakened at 4:30 a.m. every morning this week, stressed out about going to…

Over 40 Beauty: Five Great Cheek & Face Highlighters

Nothing makes me happier than when I put a beautiful highlighter on my face. For those of us over 40, finding a great illuminator (a.k.a. highlighter) can be a big challenge.  Perhaps some of you forgo highlighter altogether because you fear that putting shimmer on your upper cheeks will only bring attention to crow’s feet and other texture.  And really, sometimes it feels like having a face lit to the moon is something better suited for the young or those with near perfect skin! There is no need for bitterness, however.  Over the last few months, I’ve done extensive research on highlighters and illuminators, having tried different finishes and formulas, looking for the best illuminators for aging skin, with different intensities.  I’m happy to report I’ve found five great cheek & face illuminators, all with formulas to suit multiple skin types.  The products I’ve featured here are primarily for medium to medium deep skin tones however, all of these lines, except for Fiona Stiles, have alternatives for other skin tones. A good rule of thumb when it comes to finding illuminators or highlighters that work well with aging skin is the exact same as with glitter – don’t use the chunky stuff!  Stay away from anything too metallic; instead, stick to the micro glitter, shimmer, or pearl finishes; they’ll be much more forgiving of signs of age, or of any texture you may have on your skin. Enough with the chatter, let’s dive in already! Charlotte Tilbury Film Star Bronze & Glow Face Sculpt and Highlight  This champagne gold highlight is made to give you a Hollywood starlet glow, which is what I love about Charlotte Tilbury’s products altogether, but…
