Five Great Lipsticks

A friend of mine at work asked me for recommendations on some good lipsticks for her and I’m happy to oblige (albeit a few weeks late – sorry).  Here are five lipsticks that I deem some of the favorites in my collection.  Truth be told, I have quite a large collection of lipsticks but these five are those that I go back to again and again, and/or have set up permanent residence in my purse.  They’re my no fail lipsticks that go with any eye look; and either go bold, long lasting, or more neutral and subdued. Below I’ve included some swatches: ColourPop Matte Lipstick in Lumiere:  A pretty mauve pink, this is a universally flattering color.  The formula is matte but very creamy, long lasting, and comfortable to wear. NARS Audacious Lipstick in Vera:  A bright raspberry shade, the Audacious lipsticks have more of a satin finish and feel like a dream going on.  This is an extremely comfortable formula that is so light I tend to forget I’m wearing it. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bauhau5:  Another one of my favorite raspberry shades, I picked it because it’s a liquid lipstick and is extremely long lasting.  I use a lip balm under it because it can be drying. Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Rich Ruby:  Everyone needs a great red and this one is mine – it’s very saturated and is a bit deeper than a true red.  The Maybelline matte formula is velvety and not drying at all. Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lipstick in R61 Lucky One:  This color appears very similar to Lumiere in the tube but on the lips, it’s more of a warm rose…

What’s In My Travel Makeup Case?

I’m high maintenance, there’s no denying it.  My makeup and I are besties and a lot of it goes with me when I travel.  I do try to streamline as much as possible and keep things minimal.  It may not look like it but all of what’s pictured are essentials.  Like I said – high maintenance.  Lol.  Anyway, below is a listing of what I’ve taken with me on my vacation to Austin. Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced has really stepped up their eyeshadow game lately.  If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I really love their Chocolate Bon Bon’s palette.  Just a few short months later, they’ve replaced my love for it with the limited edition Peanut Butter & Jelly palette!  It’s like they made this palette just for me – it has the most beautiful warm orange, gold, and purple shades, and when you combine them – watch out!   The Peanut Butter & Jelly palette is based off of the shadow Peanut Butter, which came in their Semi-Sweet palette last year.  I didn’t buy the Semi-Sweet when it was released because I had just purchased the Chocolate Bar palette after much hemming and hawing (in my own mind).  The Peanut Butter and Jelly palette is bar none (no pun intended) my most favorite of the lot.  It does smell a bit like chocolate peanut butter but do not fret – not a single peanut was harmed in the making of this palette!  That’s great news for people allergic to peanuts.  😉   It’s an extremely warm toned palette but with a pop of color from Jelly, the vibrant purple shade.  You do get a variety of orange and gold tones, with Extra Creamy offering a brow highlight shade.  I will say, when I saw it on You Tube, the palette looked much larger than it is; when it arrived, I was surprised to see the smaller pans are quite small.  I don’t really care though because I had to have it for the purple alone.   One of my favorite eye looks, and one that I have been complemented on a lot whenever I wear it, is what I call the…

ColourPop Ultra Satin Lip

ColourPop has gone and done it again, those bitches!  They’ve created the new Ultra Satin Lip that is described as being the sister to their Ultra Matte Lip.  The formula is soft and not as watery as the Ultra Matte lipstick, and doesn’t dry down to a nearly impossible to remove liquid lipstick.  The Ultra Satin lipsticks are transferable but despite this they have some serious staying power, and will stain the lips, to boot.  They’re definitely matte, are slightly drying after a couple hours of wear, and they’ll come off when you eat.  They’re also the flippin’ bomb!  I love these lipsticks, they have quickly become my favorite liquid lip.  They’re highly pigmented and are much more comfortable to wear than most matte liquid lipsticks.  To be honest, I’ve found that liquid lipsticks have a tendency to emphasize the lines on the lips, making them appear older; the ColourPop Ultra Satin lipsticks tend not to do that, even after they’ve dried a bit.   The line has 16 shades, they come in a range of colors from the usual nudes, pinks, and reds plus a few edgier colors like lavender grey and charcoal grey, and sell for $6 (a bargain, I’m telling you!).  I of course, purchased the bolder pinks and reds, plus one  brown toned pink that passes as a nude on me.   Below is a description of the Ultra Satin Lip colors I own (please don’t mind the bumps, it was a bit chilly outside when I took this photo, lol): Panda:  A deep pink violet, this one does apply a bit patchy but nothing a second coat won’t cure. Lost – a brown…

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit: That Glow

Highlighter.  So beautiful and so addictive.  On some days I find I have to restrain myself otherwise I’ll powder my entire face with them.  If you find a good one, it’s like putting unicorn dust on your face, it takes your breath away.  When I first saw the Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits on Instagram, I was very intrigued.  I already own one of the ABH Illuminators in Riviera (not to mention a few Becca highlighters) but hell, what’s another 4?  When I swatched them, I was taken.  ABH has put out another Glow Kit in Gleam which are cooler pink tones; I decided to purchase That Glow because they’re warm toned and, as you may have already figured out, I’m all about the warmer colors. These four highlighters are so beautiful and have a decent range from a whitish gold to a warm bronze.  My two favorite are Bubbly and Dripping in Gold, they fall in the middle, but all 4 of them are stunning.  The highlighters are finely milled, apply smoothly, and illuminate so beautifully, giving your skin a dewy appearance that doesn’t smack people over the head. However, if you want your cheekbones to be seen from space, you can build them up or apply them damp. I’ll admit, the packaging is somewhat bulky, but a bonus (for me) is that the pans are removable so if I’m traveling, I can pop one out and take it in a Z Pallette. If you want to know more about highlighting for us beauties over 40, I’m doing some research on that subject at the moment, so stay tuned; I’ll be posting about it once I’ve pulled…
