Beauty Favorites of 2015

I found some really great products during the year and they instantly became favorites.  Here’s my list of the things I truly enjoyed using and will continue to enjoy.  With beauty trends constantly evolving, I can’t wait to see what 2016 has in store! Skin care Soap & Glory Peaches & Clean cleansing milk:  Great at removing makeup; read my review here. GlamGlow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment:  Hands down, my favorite mask; read about it here. GlamGlow Supercleanse Daily Clearing Cleanser:  I love the minty smell of this cleanser in the morning, it’s cooling and my skin loves it! Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum:  Game changer as far as my skin is concerned; read my review here. Makeup Too Faced Born This Way foundation:  Holy grail status achieved; read my review here. MAC Prep & Prime Fix Plus:  Makes all the powders on my face melt together and look awesome.  Also good for helping glittery eyeshadows to stick and pop on the lids. Makeup Geek eyeshadows:  Affordable, high quality shadows sold in pans so you can customize in a Z Palette. Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara:  Another holy grail product, this mascara works really well for me.  The formula is not too dry or wet, the brush separates the lashes beautifully, and I don’t have to curl my lashes when I use this – the wand does all the work. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector:  Beautiful highlighters, regardless of which shade you select.  Read my thoughts on Champagne Pop here. ColourPop Cosmetics:  I constantly rave about this line.  Read my thoughts here, here, and here. Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour:  Love this palette, read about it here and here. Clinique Cheek Pop blushes:  The beauty of the packaging matches the beauty of these…

New Year, New Me: Five small improvements that are a big deal

There are only two times a year I feel the need to reflect on my life and try to incorporate some good habits – New Year’s day and my birthday.  I stay away from making resolutions because, let’s face it, I rarely follow through on them.  Instead, I take a look at what I’m doing and find my opportunities for improvement, as I like to call it.  If it’s a lofty change, I’ll break it down into smaller, easier to achieve steps, otherwise I find things that don’t take a lot of money or time to accomplish.  I thought I’d share the opportunities for  improvement I’ve identified for myself; some are new and some are a continuation of what I already do.  I believe these are obtainable, small things that make, or will make, a big impact on my general well being. Teeth whitening:  Your skin isn’t the only thing to show your age, teeth can also give a clue to how many years you’ve been on the planet.  With all the coffee, tea, wine, and other vices we partake in, staining is inevitable.  A good, and inexpensive way to erase the evidence of time is to use whitening strips – my personal favorite are the Crest 3D White strips.  You could go to a dentist to have your teeth professionally whitened but why, when you can easily pick something up at the drugstore, that is effective, at a fraction of the price?  I will say, these can make your teeth somewhat sensitive so what I do is whiten every 3 – 4 days (vs. everyday) until I’ve finished up the box.  The effects will vary from person to person; for…

Must Have Eyeshadow Palettes

A good eyeshadow palette can take you from natural to glam, all in one convenient case; which coincidentally, makes them really great for travel.  As a blogger and self confessed makeup junkie, I feel compelled to try all the latest and greatest out there and, as a result, I’ve got quite a few palettes in my collection.  Truth be told, the normal gal only needs one really good eyeshadow palette, maybe two, that will offer the versatility to accommodate any situation.  Here are the must haves, the ones I feel can do it all: Urban Decay Naked palette:  This palette is a cult classic, and with good reason.  It’s filled with a variety of 12 shadows, both matte and shimmer; they’re all really great quality, blend easily, and do well on a lot of skin tones.  Naked, Buck, and Half Baked are all gorgeous shades – those three alone would make a great everyday or occasion eye look.  UD has a variety of Naked palettes for every taste, Naked is warm/neutral toned.  I’ve included it in this post because it’s a really good palette for those just starting out with makeup, or that want to expand their makeup collection. Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour palette:  My personal favorite, this palette is comprised of 12 matte eyeshadows which knocks it down a smidge in versatility (unless mattes are your thing).  That aside, it’s set up for neutral, cool, and warm looks with a quad for each tone.  Of course, with any of these palettes, there are no hard and fast rules and you can mix things up to your heart’s content.  The shadows are super pigmented (a little goes a long way), and blend like a dream…
